Swiss School

NOTES

Sustainability Management School (SUMAS)

It is the only school in Europe that offers programs that include sustainability and management.
It is based totally on sustainability.
It combines business management education and the scientific approach to sustainability.
Students there are tough to combine sustainability with business management.

Sustainable consumption & production: a greener world

Human impact on the environment is around 80 percent.

The ecological footprint measures the amount of surface area is needed to produce the resources for a daily life.
If we don't change our behavior, b y 2050 we will need twice the earth's surface to absorb our impact.
The European union created a label to show which products were Eco-friendly.
This is the begging of sustainable consumption and production around the world.

An Inconvenient Truth | Film Trailer | Participant Media

The ten hottest years in history have all taken place through the 14 years previous to this film.

This type of sustainable aircraft can reduce energy consumption by half in the aviation world.

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY GRADUATION CEREMONY
Second sustainable aircraft that will fly around the world in the year 2015
It is hard to achieve such good results from sustainable projects.
Millions were invested in this oportunity and they did a flight across america.
Every difficulty is a potential opportunity.
Exploration and inovation brings success.

Assignment

How to apply sustainable consumption to Bogota

Bogota is the largest city in Colombia and the fourth largest city in Latin america. This fact makes it hard to apply sustainable consumption and production to the city. However this does not mean it is impossible. There are several ways people in Bogota can apply sustainable alternatives to reduce the city's impact on the global environment. These options include the formulation of laws that  limit the amount of resources a company can use when making their products if they are going to sell it in Bogota. Another alternative would be to inform the buyers what products were made with sustainable resources and which products were not.

If the local government passed a law that limited the amount of resources a person could use , then these companies would start producing sustainable products, and the increase of said products would lead to a dramatic increase in sustainable consumption. Another possibility would be to inform the public of sustainable products. The amount of said products that would be sold would be a lot larger because people would feel guiltily if they bought products which were made by damaging the environment in Bogota. These two are the best alternatives to increase sustainable consumption in Bogota.

12 ways in which technology has changed since 2008

Online life has moved from just computers to phones and tablets.
Now people have internet access to the internet from anywhere.
Now people's privacy has decreased because they can get messages at any moment.

People today use they devices for their daily life rather than a computer for certain things.
Today's devices will notify ]you of new online activity and messages
Electronic devices are now cheaper and more people are able to access the internet.

Questions

-What advice do you have for parents about kids and being online(should they have your password , be your friend on Facebook monitor your texts ... what should and shouldn't they do?)

Parents that try to control their children's online behavior sometimes don't do enough, and sometimes they overprotect their kids. Parents should try to get their children's passwords in order to access their accounts if something happens, but they should not access it otherwise. Parent's should not monitor their children's texts because it would be interfering with their private life. This changes if something happens because this way your parents may be able to help you. Parents have to protect their children , but they also have to respect their privacy.

-What are the biggest benefits of being online, for you, personally?

Being online has many benefits. The internet is full of information which can be used to research  Personally people can express their personality to other in a more open way, and they will have more freedom. They neither give up their real life, nor fell bad about it. Personally you can find websites about improving as a person and this ca help you become a better person. Online exercises will help you improve your skill in certain things, and this will make you better in different things.

-Which topic in the video was most UNLIKE your own experiences and why?

The topic in the video that was most unlike my own experiences was the fact that predators will try to look for you online. This is because I have never accepted a friend request of someone who I did not know who it really was. I have never had an experience in which a stranger tries to contact me on the internet due to the fact that I have strong privacy settings on all my online accounts. Another important factor in this is the fact that I am not constantly searching for new friends online like other people do. These are the reasons why this topic does not relate to my life.

Google Day Three

Goals for the day:
-What kind of peoples do careers need.
-How does this affect you.
-What can happen if you choose a career path that needs a personality profile different from yours.

Evidence of What I learned

Today I learned that different personality profiles would do a better job in a career that best fits their personalities. A person who is curious is more likely to do a better job at something where he had to investigate. A person who is a leader is more likely to do a better job at something where he had to direct, like a business. A person who is creative would probably become a great artist. To know what career would best fit a specific person; it would be a good Idea to take a profile test to see what type of person you are. Then look at what careers would best fit your personality.

Goals for Next Class

To prepare my presentation.

Google Day Two

Goals For The Day
- To find out why choosing a career path that you enjoy is important.
-To Find out how different careers can affect your life
- How know what careers you enjoy.

http://shirley-taylor.over-blog.com/article-six-ways-your-career-can-affect-your-lifestyle-110624806.html

Evidence Of What I Learned

Choosing a career that you enjoy is really important because it will affect your entire life. If what you choose is not something you like you will be stuck with it for a long time. But if you choose something you like, then you will enjoy it. You will know what kind of careers you enjoy by knowing what kind of working environment, and you like the different topics in your work. Many times you enjoy the things that you are good at so if you are really good at something you like this might give some foreshadowing of what career you might choose.

Goal For Next Class

To match careers to personality profiles.

Google Day 1

3 Goals

1. What Kind of People are appropriate  for what types of carriers.
2. What kind of things should a person do if they are interested in a specific career.
3.What carriers are harder than others.

Useful links

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_Holland's_Theory_of_career_choice

Evidence of what I learned.

Different kinds of People will be interested in different types of careers. People who are not very social have a tendency of choosing careers that require alot of work and that let them work alone.  These kind of people might choose careers as accountants and generally people who work alone. People who are more curious might end up being a scientist, or a doctor. People who have more social skills might choose a careers such as law or business management because they would be around more people than what they are used to. Some careers like geology, physics and chemistry require alot more effort that others such as music and art.

Questions I still Have

Can a person choose more than one career?

M-banking or electronic wallets

I know nothing about this topic.
Questions: How is the digital wallet better than an ordinary wallet with paper money.
what kind of people would be interested in using these wallets.

Bullet Points:
-Digital wallets allow people to do online payments from their phone or even their wallet.
-you can purchase things from the internet by using digital wallets.
-they can also by downloaded to a smartphone.
-If you own a company you can sell products through digital wallets and it is faster.
-you can protect your information while doing transactions using the digital wallet.

The digital wallet connects to my life because it enables people to do their monetary transactions aswell as to purchase items online. Electronic devices like these are starting to replace old wallets.

questions I still have
How can I prevent loosing my asets if the internet falls.

Design Project Day 5

1. The small k4 kids liked our game a lot. According to the teaches who where there these kids could not stop playing our game. They liked every aspect of our game. We where not able to take a picture of it because someone else took our game the other day.

2.Our goals where for these kids to have fun playing it because we wanted to make them persevere when they where trying to get more points. We can say that we met the goal of the game being fun for the kids because their teachers said that they liked playing our game. The reason for the game being fun to these kids we don't know because the kids have not arrived to school.

3.-The biggest problem that we encounters was the fact that the monster would not stand alone, and we solved it by using tape to make it stand.
-Our best idea came to us when someone suggested we used tape to add weight and make the monster stand.
   - Rafael was the person who most resisted ideas. This was evident because he would constantly say "it's good as it is lets not change it".

   - I doubted that K4 kids would like a game that was originally designed for elementary school children because the mechanism of how a person wins the game might appear to complex to them. Another doubt was that they might not even understand the game and do something else with it.

  - I questioned everything about the game and even if we should do this type of game. It helped modify certain ideas but the big ideas where always the same.

  - I learned about myself that if I listen to other people I can get good feedback on what I am doing.I  learned that team work is good because everyone has great ideas that when put together can make something great. I learned that design process takes a lot of time because even the most simple of products goes through this whole process because this way you can make sure that there are mo flaws.

Design Project-Day 3

1. This game was designed for Elementary school kids, both boys and girls and it's supposed to be of medium-hard difficulty. This descriptions match my game because the style of the game is perfect for children between five and ten years of age. However the difficulty does not match because the game is not as difficult as we originally planned.

2. One of the things that we have to keep would be the fact that wherever the ball hits first it will determine the amount of points a person makes. We should also keep the idea of hitting a monster.

3. There are really no things that I can do to simplify the game. But we can eliminate the walls that where in the prototype.

Design project-day 2

1. My design and Mark's design were really similar. Rafael's model was the best because it was more complex but yet elementary school kids could understand this game.
the other models really did not have anything to add to the chosen one. Something we could add to to the model wold be the spot from which the kid should be standing.
2.

Feedback
Add more difficulty to the game, perhaps take off the walls to decrease the amount of points. the elementary school kids get.
